PLACER COUNTY, CA - Officials were looking to question another man in relation to the carjacking and kidnapping of a 34-year-old woman Thursday.
Placer County authorities arrested Rick Cooley, 31, of North Highlands Thursday, hours after he allegedly kidnapped a woman and held her in her own car for several hours as he drove through Placer and Sacramento counties, according to deputies.
Court records show Cooley's extensive criminal record includes car theft.
Placer County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jeff Ausnow said investigators received new information Friday that Cooley picked up another person after he abducted the woman.
Ausnow said deputies would like to speak with the man about any involvement in the crime. If a connection is determined, he could face charges of an accessory.
Court records show Cooley's extensive criminal record includes car theft.
The attack started around 7 a.m. Thursday when a 34-year-old woman driving on Vineyard Road was stopped by Cooley, Placer County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Ausnow said.
As the two spoke outside their cars, the woman told investigators the man hit her and pushed her into the back seat of her car.
The victim said the suspect then drove her through the Placer and Sacramento counties area for approximately three hours, dropping her off near Duffy Lane and PFE Road in Roseville.
Ausnow said the woman did not know the suspect and his motive for the crime was not immediately clear.
The victim was hospitalized with possible head trauma.
