DAVIS, CA -- If you look up in the sky before dawn Wednesday and see a steady stream of lights, don't worry. It's not an invasion of UFO's, but rather the annual Perseid meteor shower.

Astronomers say the Perseid is one of the best meteor showers as it produces up to 60 meteors an hour, that are so visible to the naked eye a telescope is not neccessary if you want to catch the show.

According to NASA's Web site, the Perseid Meteor Shower occurs every August as the Earth enters a stream of dusty debris from Comet Swift-Tutle, the source of the meteor shower.

The more superstitious refer to the Perseid event as the "Tears of St. Lawrence" because it coincides with the execution of the Roman saint and martyr killed for his Christian beliefs on August 10, 258 A.D.

No matter what you believe the show rarely disappoints those who venture out at night to watch the annual light show. The meteor shower is supposed to continue for the rest of the week.
