SACRAMENTO, CA - California's Employment Development Department (EDD) expanded the hours of its Workforce Services offices beginning this week to accommodate the unemployed.
The 26 Workforce Services offices located around the state are now open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The four offices in the Sacramento-San Joaquin region are: Sacramento, 2901 50th Street; Roseville, 1880 Sierra Gardens; Stockton, 135 W. Fremont; and Merced, 1205 West 18th Street.
Those looking for work can file for unemployment insurance at the offices as well as take advantage of job search and career development assistance.
The unemployment insurance phone number is 1 (800) 300-5616. The Spanish language line is 1 (800) 326-8937.
Filing for unemployment insurance can also be handled online at EDD.
In March, EDD handled nearly 490,000 initial claims, almost twice the number of March 2008.
EDD paid out up to $77 million a day in unemployment benefits last month.
