DETROIT, MI -- The new "Red Dawn" re-boot movie began filming in metropolitan Detroit, Michigan last Friday.

This newer version of the Patrick Swayze / Charlie Sheen / Lea Thompson / C. Thomas Howell / Powers Boothe flick will actually be "set" in Spokane, Washington.

The original storyline was an eerie look into a future World War III, as forces from Russia and Asia invade the United States. A brave group of teenagers calling themselves the "Wolverines" after their school mascot evade being captured and hideout in the rural part of town. Led by the oldest of the bunch (played by the late Patrick Swayze), the teens gather weapons, develop a strategy and finally fight back at the enemy forces.

This newer telling of "Red Dawn" will feature roughly the same plot as the original and will star Chris Helmsworth (who recently played Captain Kirk's dad, George, in "Star Trek" 2009), Josh Peck (known as the voice of Eddie in "Ice Age"), Isabel Lucas ("Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"), Conner Cruise ("Seven Pounds") and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who played the Comedian in "Watchmen").
