Auburn Letter Carriers Food Drive
Saturday, May 10th
The National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct their annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 10th. This has become the largest single-day food drive in the U.S. Locally it will be the 16th annual effort by postal employees to help restock the shelves at the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, the Salvation Army and Seventh-Day Adventist Community Services.
How can area residents participate? That’s easy! Just place bags filled with nonperishable food items next to your mailbox on the morning of May 10th. Your letter carrier will pick them up on his or her route, and have them delivered to local agencies feeding the hungry. Items most needed are canned meats and fish, canned soup, juices, pasta, canned vegetables and fruits, cereal, and rice. Please do not include items in glass containers or those that have expired dates. If you live in a rural area, check with your letter carrier for pick up or take food items to your local post office.
Participation by postal clients is instrumental in the success of this essential food drive. During the week prior to May 10th reminder post cards will be delivered to every household. If you would also like a reminder via email, you may visit the website: helpstampouthunger.com, and enter your contact information.
The Letter Carriers’ Food Drive takes place at a time when local agencies are beginning to run out of items donated during the holiday period. The need in the greater Auburn area is ever increasing as the economy continues to slow, and the cost of transportation, housing, food and medical are on the rise.
Please help your Letter Carriers “Stamp Out” hunger on May 10th. It is an easy, convenient way to donate.
