CHP Officer Steve Merchant installs a safety seat

Wednesday, May 28th
5am-9am
Cal Expo - Lot A

The law requires all children 6 years old or 60 pounds or less to be properly restrained in a car seat. It's recommended children stay in booster seats until they are 4'9". The CHP reports that almost 90% of child safety seats are used incorrectly or not used at all. With the Summer travel season practically here, It's important to make sure your child is riding safe. Come join News10 Good Morning's Melissa Crowley and Monica Woods at Cal Expo along with the California Highway Patrol who will have experts on hand to make sure your child safety seat is properly installed.

Here are some safety tips for car seats:
Children ages 12 and under are safest when properly buckled in the rear seat.
Never use a car seat you don't know the background of (this includes used seats from garage sales or thrift stores).
Get your car seat replaced after being involved in a collision (when the child was in the seat).
Always refer to the child seat and vehicle manufacturers instructions for proper use and installation instructions.
Stay informed about child safety seat recalls. Remember to fill out the registration form for new car seats.
Have your car seat inspected at a car seat check-up event or a fitting station.
