Nintendo's 'Super Mario 3D World' for Wii U.
In the video above, Nintendo of America's David Young presents the latest with Super Mario 3D World, a new game coming to Wii U this November.
As was discovered in June during E3, Super Mario 3D World is a new platformer being made by the same team behind Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS. The game, which is a Wii U exclusive, will feature Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach as playable characters - all of whom will feature the same abilities they had in the NES classic Super Mario Bros. 2 from 1988. But, since this is a Mario game, it does end there.
Not only can the four protagonists don a cat suit and go on the prowl, they can also pick up the new Double Cherry item. It literally allows the player to multiply and control two or more versions of their character at once.
"This is a really crazy, crazy way to play through," said Nintendo of America's David Young. "There's lost of meyhem, lots of excitement."
In addition to just being a fun new way to play a Mario game, there are actually segments of the game that will require a single player to control multiple simultaneous copies of his or her character.
Abilities and items are only some of what's new with Super Mario 3D World, as new levels have also come to light (and shadow).
"In this [new] level, what you're seeing is sort of a play of light and shadow," Young explained. "So you see in the background - you see there's a light source is coming in and it casts shadows on everything to give this really cool kind of spooky look."
Shadows can also reveal hidden items and pathways, adding literally another dimension to this game.
Super Mario 3D World is rated "E for Everyone" by the ESRB and is scheduled for release in North America on November 22 as a Wii U exclusive.
