It will be two sirs at the wedding when Sir Ian McKellen presides over the upcoming nuptials of his friend and X-Men co-star, Sir Patrick Stewart, according to The Hollywood Reporter and other celeb-media reports.
McKellen, 73, talked about the plan on a British chat show, saying he would officiate at the wedding of Stewart, 72, to his fiancé of four years, jazz singer Sunny Ozell, 34, in Massachusetts. She's based in New York but grew up in Nevada.
"I'm going to marry Patrick," McKellen said on the Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday night.
He said he has officiated at one wedding before, a gay civil union. But he doesn't need any special credential to officiate at this one because Massachusetts offers a "one day marriage designation" that, for $25 and a character reference, allows any friend or family member of the couple to legally perform a wedding.
Both McKellen and Stewart are Shakespearean-trained, knighted British actors (McKellen has been nominated for two Oscars) who have become international stars in pop-culture movies and TV. McKellen has played the metal-bending mutant Magneto in three X-Men movies, while Stewart plays the wheelchair-using Professor Charles Xavier.
