Biography: Cristina Mendonsa

Cristina Mendonsa anchors all three of News10's highly rated and award winning evening news programs. She first came to News10 in 1995.

Cristina has received numerous professional honors, including two  Emmy Awards. She won an Emmy in the "Serious News Feature" reporting category for a series that both warned and helped consumers protect themselves from identity theft. She continues to do update the series with new information as more advances are made to stop identity thieves.

Cristina received another Emmy Award in the "Breaking News" category, as well as three Best of Gannett awards for both breaking and investigative journalism. She was also part of the team earning a national Murrow Award for coverage of the papal visit to Denver.

In addition, Cristina has been nominated for Emmys in both anchoring and producing categories and received the Hispanic Salute award from the Bureau of Land Management for her focus on Latino issues.

From Shanghai to the Gaza Strip, Cristina has traveled to explore Northern California business interests abroad and done in depth stories on terrorism from some of the most contentious areas of the middle east.

A series on wilderness survival in 1996 earned Cristina recognition from the U.S. Congress and an award winning special she produced called, "News10 Remembers" highlighted memories of News10's veteran reporting staff. The special focused on our regions biggest news events in the past 30 years.

Cristina's interest in local charities is as varied as her interest in news. She has worked on telethons for U.C. Davis, co-produced videotapes for the Girl Scouts, worked for Sacramento AIDS organizations, Mercy Healthcare in Folsom and became a big advocate of organ donation after doing a story on a young woman with cystic fibrosis who received a double lung transplant. Cristina also lends a hand at dozens of small annual community events including the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Folsom.

Cristina was born and raised in Northern California. She attended Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, Sacramento State University and Metro College of Denver. She graduated with a degree in Government and Journalism. Politics remains one of her favorite story subjects.

Before joining News10, Cristina anchored the number one rated morning news program in Denver, Colorado for KUSA-TV. She also worked as a consumer reporter and fill in anchor at KOVR-TV and as a general assignment reporter for KRCR-TV in Redding.  She started her television career as a writer for KRBK-TV (now KMAX-TV) in Sacramento. Cristina began her journalism career as a newspaper columnist for the Fair Oaks Post and worked for several radio station news departments before making the jump to television.

Cristina lives in Folsom with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys running, cycling, weightlifting and is a student of the Krav Maga system of self defense.
