I want to share a story with you as I leave the familiar surroundings of News10 Good Morning for something new. A gentleman was walking past me at the mall the other day when he called out, "Did I hear right, you’re no longer on the morning show?" He was already a couple of steps behind me when I turned around and said yes, he’d heard correctly. I was ready to explain my new job when he interjected, "Are you happy about it?" Why yes, I was happy about it. But before I could get another word in, he smiled and said, "If you’re happy, then I’m happy," and walked off apparently content he got an honest answer. I was pleasantly surprised someone even asked if I was happy, though I wasn’t done talking.
Well, chatting is what I’ll be doing very soon on news10.net. That’s what my new job is all about: Hearing what you have to say about the day’s hot topics, answering your questions about how we cover the news, really just chatting online about the things that are important in our community and our lives.
As I’ve shared with you over the years, my husband (and colleague George Warren) and I have a daughter who was not quite 2 years old when I joined Dan, Monica and Melissa on News10 Good Morning. She’s now in the 1st grade. When a viewer wrote in last week and asked why I was leaving, I said I had promised Samantha more time together.
Next month Kelly Jackson from our sister station KSDK-TV in St. Louis will join News10 Good Morning. She’s intelligent and warm with a great sense of humor, someone who’s sure to bring a smile to your face each morning. In fact, the week of April 10, I’ll have a conversation with Kelly that you’ll see online so I hope you’ll join me in welcoming her.
I’ll be spending the next few weeks learning various computer programs and making my new home in the News10 Web Center. Of course, I’d love to hear from you as always, whether it’s a comment about our new interactive project or something going on at your child’s school. Now that I think about it, we don’t even have a title for my new position. "Web Anchor" seems a bit formal. A few friends suggested "Mistress of the Web." Maybe I don’t need one.
You can still e-mail me here – otherwise be sure to Watch This Space for upcoming details.
Look forward to chatting,
Sharon
