From the "Biggest Little City" to the "Capital City," Nicole Chavez joined News10 as a reporter from KTVN in Reno, Nevada. Nicole's career's taken her from the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles to the apple orchards of Central Washington state to the Nevada desert. Moving to Sacramento, though, finally feels like home.
A Northern California native, Nicole left Sonoma County to attend Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. There, she got behind the microphone for the first time at KXLU radio. Shortly after, she was promoted to campus news director. While radio was fun, she'll never forget when she walked into a television newsroom for the first time as an intern at KNBC. From the breaking news, to the frantic writing, to show time....it was a rush and she was hooked!
Nicole took advantage of the rich Los Angeles entertainment opportunities while living there. She hosted a local cable television series called "The Sonic Lounge" and even got a chance to test her comedy skills when she performed with the LMU cheerleading squad on "Who's Line is it, Anyway?"
After graduation, she headed to Yakima, Washington where she served as an anchor/reporter for KAPP-TV. She also reported/anchored in Spanish for KAPP's "Noticias Locales." Then she was off to Reno. She reported on everything from wildfires to presidential campaign visits before joining News 10 in April, 2005.
Since she grew up in wine country, wine tasting comes naturally for Nicole. In her spare time, she loves putting her palate to the test, especially when it comes to Merlot and Pinot noir! She also loves to travel and hopes to spend more time with her extended family in El Salvador. Nicole also likes to sing, dance, play the piano and hang out with her cat, Elle.
