Wake-up and start your day with Kate Larsen on "News 10 Good Morning." Kate is an award winning journalist and proud California native. Kate joined the News10 team as a multimedia journalist in 2010 and now anchors the weekend edition of News10 Good Morning and reports during the week.
"I am so excited to be back in Northern California and working with such a talented and experienced news team!" said Kate.
Kate Larsen is a true California girl and has lived all over the Golden State. She grew up in San Francisco, but decided to head south to Los Angeles for college, where she attended UCLA. "Go Bruins!" Kate spent 3 years working in news production and reporting for a small cable station while in Los Angeles.
Kate has wanted to be a news broadcaster since she was a little girl and got her first big break in Bakersfield, CA, where she spent 2 years as a live reporter for a 4-hour morning show.
"I have done just about everything live on TV... ice skating, cycling, pumpkin carving, roller derby, trick horseback riding, and a lot of eating. I'm pretty fearless, except for the time I went live inside a motorcycle cage at a circus. That was a little scary," said Kate.
She covered a lot of fun and quirky stories in Kern County, but one of the most rewarding experiences was her investigation into illegal off-roading in Eastern Kern County. She confronted dirt bikers who were trespassing on private property and destroying the land and livelihood of local ranchers. Her two-part series helped bring awareness to the problem and earned Kate a 2009 RTNA Golden Mike Award and a 2010 Associated Press Mark Twain Award.
When Kate is not at work or watching the news, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and cats; she loves shopping (especially if there's a sale), going out to eat at fun restaurants and the occasional dance party (even though she's not particularly graceful). Kate is a member of the Junior League and enjoys volunteering and taking part in community events. And, now that she's back in Northern California, Kate hopes to find her winter ski-legs in Tahoe, explore local hiking areas and take part in some river rafting adventures.
"I love meeting new people so if you ever see me, please say hello. I am always looking for fun and interesting stories, so if you have an idea please get in touch."
