A fourth generation Northern Californian, Dan Adams came to News10 in 1981. For six years, he served as our Stockton Bureau chief before coming to Sacramento in 1987 as a general assignment reporter. In April 2006, Dan broke ground in the Sacramento market by becoming the first video-journalist, shooting, writing, editing his own stories, then sending them via the Internet to Sacramento for broadcast. He now works out of his home and primarily covers Solano County and the Bay Area for News 10.
Even as a child, Dan says he knew he wanted to get into broadcasting, setting his sights on being a Top 40 radio disc jockey. In 1971, Dan achieved that goal by hosting "Dandy Dan's Solid Gold Weekend" on KCSB-FM in Santa Barbara.
After graduating with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1975 with a B.A. in Communication Studies, Dan landed his first paid broadcasting job at KPCO-AM in Quincy where he did news, a call-in talk show, and a Top 40 music show. Dan says it was great experience, especially when doing live broadcasts from the Plumas County Fair and the wind would blow the needle across the record. Every chance he gets, he still returns to Plumas County to report for News10. At that time, he also began a five-year stint as correspondent for The Sacramento Bee. In 1978, Dan moved on to KHSL-TV, Channel 12 in Chico where he was first a reporter, then news director.
During his nearly three decades reporting for News10, Dan has been honored with numerous awards including four Emmys, an Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in journalism, "Best of the West Award" for investigative reporting, and more than a dozen Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists awards for live, breaking news, and feature reporting. He is a past vice-president and current governor for the Northern California/Nevada/Hawaii chapter of NATAS (The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences). Dan has served on numerous panels discussing a wide range of topics from reporting, video-journalism, and broadcast ethics. He has also served on panel responsible for developing the current policy allowing television news coverage of court cases in California.
While Dan works hard, he also plays hard. When not reporting for News10, Dan travels a great deal and particularly enjoys cruises. Dan also spends time skiing, swimming, biking, weight training and relaxing in Palm Springs and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
